The Grid Free Technologies field journal
Less dependence. More doing. A journal of practical off-grid systems, farm work, and lessons from an Ontario homestead.
Products — still on the workbench
No products are listed for sale yet. Useful things start with a problem on the farm and earn their place through building and testing. Farm automation is an active build: pump and tank monitoring, solar and battery information, and automatic control rules. No prices, inventory, or shipping dates are promised.
Builds — from the screen to the farm
The farm control room · In progress
Developing a dashboard and Node-RED rules for pump control, tank-level monitoring, solar and battery information, and valves. Software has been written; physical wiring and component installation remain part of the work. Next: connect the components and test the system. Field reliability and final hardware specifications have not been established.
Building the shop · In progress
Metal siding and work toward insulation, electrical, plumbing, and the interior. A construction story, not a building service or a product listing.
Make the part you need · In progress
Using an existing chimney clamp as a pattern, tracing it onto cardboard, and planning to cut and weld matching pieces. Not a universal-fit product or a claim of an inspected installation.

About Grid Free
Grid Free Technologies grew out of doing the work on an Ontario family farm. Building, making, fixing. Callum documents the process through short-form videos and hands-on projects, while developing practical farm automation. Power, water, timber, cabin, shop, land, and food: practical work first, technology where it helps.
